This trip to Torrisi was possibly my favorite meal in my food trips with my friend Annamarie for her Food and Fashion project. Just look how tasty that beef short rib with polenta looks. Wow.

And we’re back!  Welcome to Food & Fashion, a project where I, along with my good friend and fellow food lover Aziz Ansari, hit up five of our favorite restaurants in NYC and dressed for the occasion. Today’s post is about our trip to Torrisi in Soho.  Torrisi has this amazing old-school New York City feel and what better way to embody it than with a 3 piece suit and a prohibition era throwback dress.  Read below for a full recap of our delicious meal and a breakdown of our looks.  Photos by Noah Kalina.  Food photos by me.

Torrisi, how I love you. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC hands down. I’ve had dinner here several times, and this was possibly my favorite menu. Of the appetizers, the staple made to order mozzarella was just unreal and as amazing as ever. All other mozzarella should be embarrassed. My favorite dish, was the main course aka the beef short rib with creamy polenta. GOD DAMN THIS THING IS GOOD. Each piece of beef just made me sink into my seat, my body unable to withstand all the deliciousness. But just when the delicious levels seemed to be maxed out - THE FUCKING CREAMED CORN POLENTA GETS IN THE MIX. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? CREAMED CORN POLENTA!!! Let me say this right here, if you don’t like creamed corn, just fucking get out of my face if you see me in person, we’re never going to get along. The same goes for polenta. Put these two things together, along with that short rib, and wow. I can’t even write about this anymore, cause I’m just going to be miserable that I’m not eating that food right now. Ok, I’m sorry. I’m going to calm down. Let me take a few deep breaths. Ok. I’m good now.

By the way- I was having lunch at Torrisi when they were experimenting with the meatball parm sandwich they are going to serve at Parm (the new sister restaurant opening next door) and I was lucky enough to snag one. Let’s just say. I. fucking. lost. it. SO GOOD. When that place opens, you best do yourself a favor and go eat one. They are also serving them at Yankee stadium right now if you can’t wait for Parm to open later this month. Trust me, this is THE must eat sandwich of 2011. Also, if you are into phrases like “THE must eat sandwich of 2011,” we can be best friends.

Umm, I don’t really know how to follow this description of Torrisi.  All I can do is verify that I did indeed see Aziz rendered incapacitated by a bite of short rib and creamed corn polenta.  At first I thought something was wrong, his eyes closed and his chin fell to his chest.  I was like, aww man, I think Aziz just died, but no, he actually just needed to fully check out in order to process the deliciousness of his food.  In a few seconds he came back to life and we were able to finish our dinner like adults.  Only not really because there is very little about either of us that is adult-like.
 
We had a broccoli dish that was out-of-control good and as mentioned before the mozzarella speaks for itself.  The goat ricotta gnocchi was my favorite dish if I had to choose one, but seriously there was not a misstep in this meal.

Oh, I’m excited to say I also happened to be there the day Aziz sampled the meatball parm sandwich and it’s true, he. fucking. lost. it.  I have a confession to make, remember in the Roberta’s post when I said I hadn’t eaten meat in 9 months?  I kind of lied. I did have a bite of the meatball parm sandwich.  The only comment I have is that when Parm opens I will probably be a full meat eater again.
